Population in NSW projected to grow to 11.5 million
NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet released a new report on Monday 7 June detailing the projected growth of the state by 2061. The report outlines key projections across a range of measures. Of these projections, one of the most relevant for the church planning includes population forecasts.
Quoting from the report, “The challenge of building enough homes will be concentrated in the cities where nearly three quarters of the State’s population live and which have 70 percent of the housing stock. We expect 86 percent of New South Wales’ population growth over the next 20 years will be in Greater Sydney.”
The report goes on to say, “Strategic planning helps to ensure that we can accommodate population growth by building sufficient houses with the right infrastructure, including schools, hospitals, and green space for our communities. There is a need for ongoing commitment by both the NSW and local governments to ensure that these housing targets are identified and met, and that broader objectives of the plan to create a connected and liveable city are achieved.”
How much more do we need to be praying and planning now for the investment of churches in new growth areas, such as Bradfield in the South West or Marsden Park and Riverstone in the North West?
